Not sure if you're looking at other sewing blogs at all, but here are two I think you'll find helpful in a "Dos and Don'ts" way:
http://www.cashmerette.com/
- Nice profile photo and simple one sentence statement of what the blog is about: "Hello! I'm Jenny, and I'm passionate about helping curvy women sew and feel fabulous!" How easy it is to know what this blog is about!
- Multiple sources of income: selling patterns, discount codes to fabric suppliers (meaning she gets a commission for anyone who uses promo code to purchase fabric through that ad), also sells "kits" that come with fabric and pattern -- all of which are available from home page.
- She has some tutorials -- Lead magnet/hook to draw people in. Maybe stick this in the idea bank and think about what possible ways you could connect not only with people who CAN'T sew and therefore will buy your totes, but also people who CAN sew.
Compare to: http://whatkatiesews.net/
- No "mission statement", difficult to know what I'll find on this blog
- Menu organized in a way that makes it self-centered. Her studio. Her projects. She actually offers a ton more than just "what she sews", but it's hidden under a general "More Categories"menu- big don't!
- Even worse, the "Tips" category isn't always about sewing!! The first one is about photo editing! What in the world? Isn't this a sewing blog?? So confusing. (And yet, there's hope for us all because she still received a blogging award.)
