The nice thing about a lifestyle blog is that it includes anything in the author's life: recipes, organization advice, monthly goals, fashion, etc. It's less of a blog about a specific topic and more of a blog about a specific person and their collective story.
The not so nice thing about lifestyle blogs is that initial feeling of "Wait... what is this about? Where do I start?" Plus, I would have to juggle regularly updating more than one topic and it feels like the work load would triple or quintuple if it weren't well planned.
Hmm... anyway.
My goal today is listing 10 things that excite me and 10 things that drain me in no particular order, so here we go:
- Learning
- Teaching, sharing information with others
- Creating art (painting, drawing, sculpture
- Music (both listening and creating)
- Discussing stories and projects
- Common things done uncommonly well
- Getting things done
- Designing documents, planning
- Cooking and baking (or perhaps more about the end result of eating!)
- Being outside
- Public speaking/presenting (teaching JLI and Aikido classes)
- Volunteering for public events (more public speaking/presenting)
- Working at the computer
- Not being able to find things when I need them (both digitally and in the real world)
- Editing/polishing my work
- Working with unreliable people
- Unfulfilled promises and projects (perhaps feelings of guilt in general)
- Lack of direction/focus, feeling stagnant
- Being out of shape/ tiring quickly
- Not being able to say "no" to my well-meaning, but slightly pushy, friend in Florida
With my remaining time (16 minutes), going to list as many general article/blog post ideas as I can think of that I might be interested in blogging about based on the 10 things that excite me.

My timer just rang. I was hoping for 30, but 28 isn't bad! :) Next, I brought out my set of mini-highlighters, scrap paper, and color-coded the topics, since I'm a big fan of color-coding and visual data.
Surprisingly (or maybe not) Art appeared only 12 times in the 28 (less than half!) and came in 2nd, Informational topics came in 1st with 15, and Sharing took 3rd with 11.
While I don't think these 28 things are enough to say for certain what my blog should be about, I'm already feeling more confident about the idea of having a blog with flexibility in the topics (as along as they are well organized).
