Notes from Flipped Lifestyle Podcast

Listened to #94 of the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast where hosts Shane and Jocelyn give advice to Careo the basketball coach, who wants to start an online business. Even though her idea for an online business is training volunteer youth basketball coaches which doesn't seem that applicable to any of us, the advice and principles of starting an online business are all applicable to any online business. ;)

My biggest takeaway from the episode was her question about how to choose what to sell and what to give away for free. The answer is quite simple apparently:

Give away what to do. Sell how to do it.
(Sell it at a higher cost to do it for them/help them do it.)

Makes sense. We all know that getting in better shape simply means eating healthier and exercising more, yet the diet and fitness industry is loaded with weight loss clinics, cookbooks, exercise dvds, workout machines, and cleanses selling ways on how to do it. Likewise, a cookbook costs, but a personal chef costs more.

After hearing this, I can see now that the book I'm working on for giving away for free has FAR too much information in it.

My plan had been to show how to draw 0 point (isometric), 1 point, 2 point, 3 point, and 5 point perspective. Now, I'll be changing it to show how to do 0 point perspective only and giving examples of what to do for the others.

Hopefully the changes will make it easier to finish the book as well, and then I can proceed with building the "alone together" community.

    1. I liked what they said about having your product for sale, and then driving traffic to it through social media, or freebies offered on the site. Sometimes I forget that things like Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, aren't simply ways of "getting your name out," but should all have visible links to click back to the "subscribe" or "join our email list" page.
